Dynamic generation, management of interactive plots
نویسنده
چکیده
Rapid advances in entertainment technology necessitate the development of computational models for interactive plots capable of creating engaging stories that are meaningfully interactive. This work describes a computational framework for supporting dynamic generation, management and resolution of interactive plots. In this framework, the user takes the place of the story protagonist. The rest of the cast consists of discrete computer characters, each playing specific roles in the story. The plot is dynamically shaped by the interaction between the user and the rest of the cast. This framework supports an Aristotelian plot conception, in which a conflict between antagonistic forces develops out of an initial situation. The plot moves from this initial situation towards its antagonistic climax, through a sequence of conflicts, and then towards an unambiguous solution at the end. This paper describes dynamic techniques that analyze the evolving plot to support user participation, adopt dramatically interesting story developments and resolve the plot in engaging ways based on the motives of the characters involved. This framework has been implemented as part of DEFACTO, a research project for designing interactive story systems.

Hierarchical Generation of Dynamic and Nondeterministic Quests
Quests are a fundamental storytelling mechanism used by computer role-playing games to engage players in the game’s narrative. Although role-playing games have evolved in many different ways in the last years, their basic narrative structure is still based on static plots manually created by game designers. In this paper, we present a method for the generation of dynamic quests based on hierarc...
متن کاملEvaluation of Tillage, Nitrogen Fertilizer and Crop Residue Management on some Agronomic Traits of Soybean
This study setout to investigate the effect of wheat residue, tillage, and nitrogen fertilizer management on some agronomic traits of soybean as a split split plot based on randomized complete block design with three replications. The main plots included wheat residue management: collecting and leaving residue and sub plot included tillage (without tillage and conventional tillage), and the sub...
متن کاملImproving the Scene: Extending LOGTELL to Support a Plan-recognition / Plan-generation Paradigm
How to characterize a literary genre is a much debated problem, which can be approached with useful results by combining models drawn from both Literary Theory and Computer Science. Once a genre is specified with some rigour in a constructive way, it becomes possible not only to determine whether a given plot is a legitimate representative of the genre, but also to generate such plots, an abili...
متن کاملiPlots eXtreme - Next-generation Interactive Graphics Design and Implementation of Modern Interactive Graphics
Interactive graphics provide a very important tool that facilitates the process of exploratory data and model analysis which is a crucial step in real-world applied statistics. Only a very limited set of software exists that provides truly interactive graphics for data analysis, partially because it is not easy to implement. Very often specialized software is created to offer graphics for a par...
متن کاملPlanning characters' behaviour in interactive storytelling
In this paper, we describe a method for implementing the behaviour of artificial actors in the context of interactive storytelling. We have developed a fully implemented prototype based on the Unreal TournamentTM game engine, and carried experiments with a simple sitcom-like scenario. We discuss the central role of artificial actors in interactive storytelling and how real-time generation of th...
